Wilbur Williams, age 93, of New Castle passed away Sunday, March 1, 2020, at Hickory Creek in New Castle.
Wilbur was born May 14, 1926, in Richmond, Indiana the son of Jeff and Annie Lou (Spears) Williams. He attended schools in Richmond.
Wilbur married Wilma Carol Myers on January 29, 1949, in New Castle by Rev. Samuel Criss.
Wilbur was employed over the years at Swayne Robinson Foundry in Richmond. After moving to New Castle, he worked at Morris Chevrolet, the Boy’s Club and the New Castle State Developmental Center where he retired in 1986.
Wilbur was a faithful member of Wiley United Methodist Church and was instrumental in the construction of the new church building in 1989-90. He later attended Trinity United Methodist Church.
He is survived by a daughter Martha Jean Wilson-Haile of Glendale, Wisconsin; grandsons Mark Williams of Indianapolis, Damion (Annette) Williams of Noblesville, Joshua Williams of Richmond, Gedi and Afrah Haile of Glendale, Wisconsin, David Kennedy of Muncie and a granddaughter Edana Williams of Indianapolis; nephews Lloyd Spicer Jr. of Richmond and Joel Williams of Minnesota; nieces, Carol Ann Mack, Denise Pennington and Joyce Wright all of Richmond; Joyce Martin and Kim Rucker of San Antonio, Texas as well as sister-in-law, Marian Williams of Chicago; he is also survived by several great grandchildren and great nieces & nephews. The family would like to thank Hickory Creek Nursing Home for their excellent care.
He was preceded in passing by his parents, his wife Wilma Carol Myers Williams, his sons Duane And Steven Williams, daughter, Connie Williams Griffin and son-in-law Rollin Griffin. Also, brothers Norwood, Charles and Marion Williams; sisters, Cora Reed, Mattie Williams, Annie Ola Williams, Carrie Martin and Maxine Spicer. Wilbur also had close friends and caregivers for many years including Betty Rust, Steve White, Carla Henderson, Martha Hammrick, James Smith, Rebecca Rust and Ricky Cottman.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2020, at Wiley United Methodist Church in New Castle with Pastor Roby Wood officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. prior to the services at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
