Vickie L. Akers, 73, of New Castle passed away Thursday September 17, 2020 at Hancock Regional Hospital. She was born June 17, 1947 in New Castle to the late Ralph and Catherine (Van Dyke) Conner.
A 1966 graduate of New Castle High School, she had been employed at Crider’s Drive-In and New Castle Healthcare. Vickie was a member of the Locust Grove Community Club, DAR, Eastern Star and Eagles Lodge. She enjoyed flowers, collecting dolls and tea sets and attending antique tractor shows with her husband. Vickie especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include four children: Samuel J., II (Melody) Akers and Dawn R. Leece, both of New Castle, Michelle (Jim) Pickett of Zionsville and Josh Leece of Trafalger; grandchildren: Alisha Akers, Shawn (Courtney) Leece, Joseph Leece and Bentley Vaughan; great-grandchildren: Bella, Samuel, Levi, Zoey and Makayla; brother: Alfred Conner; two sisters: Connie Freeman and Norma Jean Flynn; half-siblings: Pennie Massengale (David) Jones, Rick (Denise) Massengale, Rhonda (Ken) McDaniel, Lester (Pong) Massengale and Jeff Massengale; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Samuel J. Akers and an infant brother: Claude Massengale, Jr.
Services will be held at 3: 00 P.M, Sunday, September 20, 2020 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Jeff Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens.
