Vicki Dunaway, 56, of Milton, Indiana went to be with her loved ones in Heaven after a courageous battle with cancer on February 15, 2020, surrounded by her children and fiancé.
Vicki was born on the 23rd, late December back in 63, to Virgil and Ruth (Biddle) Pennington who resided in Brookville. She moved to Connersville as a young child, but she had made Milton her home for the last 30 years. She also attended Connersville High School until 1981.
In her younger days, she was employed at Snowman, but she was mostly a stay-at-home mom until she found employment at Woodridge Inn. She then worked at Swifty north gas station for 22 years, eventually becoming a manager. Upon its closing, she worked at Paul Casket until they closed. She was also employed for a time at Wells Variety Store and Hickory Creek nursing home. She most recently was employed at Fayette Tool and Die until her health prevented her from working.
In her younger years, Vicki enjoyed being a Girl Scout, horseback riding, and spending time with her friends. As an adult, she was a member of the Moose Lodge and Amvets, following her late husband’s band. She loved music, concerts, and traveling. Vicki always had open arms and believed “a friend was as good as family.” In her later years, she enjoyed being on her back porch with her family, friends, and dogs. If you were lucky enough to know Vicki, you know she loved with her whole heart.
Vicki is survived by her fiancé, Steve Metcalf “Cheezy”; her mother, Ruth Pennington; two brothers, Randy Pennington of Connersville and Rick Pennington of Indianapolis; two daughters, Jessi (Jimmy) Murphy of Connersville and Amanda (Jasper) Hensley of Milton; her baby boy, Chester Gibbs, Jr. “Buddy” at home; three grandsons, Bryce Gibbs, Trey and Virgil “Quinn” Grizzell; a niece, Karla Beltran and her four children; bonus sisters, Cindy Higgins, Beth Frazier, Lisa Nichols, Kelly Julian, and Charity Nash; bonus daughter, Jessica Harris; and too many other bonus children and grandchildren to mention. She loved you all.
Vicki was preceded in death by her father, Virgil Pennington, her grandparents, several aunts and uncles, her former husband and best friend RD Dunaway, and her beloved dog, Buster.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home.
