Stan Carter, age 81, of Greens Fork, Indiana, died Saturday, October 3, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born September 9, 1939, in Winchester, Indiana, to John D. and Christine Chenoweth Carter, Stan lived in Wayne County, Indiana, most of his life. He was a 1958 graduate of Winchester High School and graduated from Indiana Barber School in 1968. Stan served as a barber for many years. He also worked in the dietary department at the Richmond State Hospital, retiring in 2005. Stan attended Salem Primitive Baptist Church in Greens Fork.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Juanita Bane Carter, to whom he was married July 16, 1966; daughters, Sandy (Brian) Ballenger of Cambridge City, Indiana, and Nikki (Matt) Cox of Liberty, Indiana; grandchildren, Lindsay (Chad) Abernathy of Morristown, Indiana, Emma (Michael) Ullery of Richmond, Indiana, Lily Ballenger (Chad Phenis) of Cambridge City, and Gabe, Grant, and Adam Cox, all of Liberty; great-grandchildren, Greyson and Griffin Abernathy and Baby Ullery, who is due to arrive in November 2020; siblings, Kathy (Gary) Adamson, Linda Bane (Bob Hall), Karen (Ed) Miller, Delores George, Charlie (Ruth) Bane, Rosalee (Claude) Caudle, Lucille Coddington, Patty Bane, Gerald (Cornelia) Bane, Evelyn Harris, Barbara Carter, and Larry Carter; many nieces and nephews; and many friends, including special friend, John Bryant.
He was preceded in death by his parents and extended family members, Marcia Campbell, Paul George, Reg and Marjorie McMullen, Nancy Bane, Ronnie Coddington, Kenny Bane, Reide Harris, and Maurice and Evelyn Bane.
Visitation for Stan Carter will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at Greens Fork South Cemetery, with his son-in-law, Brian Ballenger officiating. Please plan to wear your own mask in the funeral home. Burial will be in Greens Fork South Cemetery.
