Robert G. May, 89, Cambridge City, passed away Thursday evening December 3, 2020 at Reid Health in Richmond, Indiana. A son of the late James Henry and Melba (Thornburg) May, Robert was born in Pershing, Indiana on March 16, 1931. Formerly of Straughn, Robert also grew up in the Cambridge City and Milton communities. He has made his home in Connersville since the 1990’s with the last 4 years at the home of his daughter Cindy. Robert served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was the second seat front gunner in a B26 Marauder and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross medal for heroism and extraordinary achievement during aerial combat. Robert had worked for Gulf Oil Refinery in pipeline construction and retired from Sweet Construction Company after several years of service. In his leisure, Robert enjoyed fishing and watching old western movies.

Survivors include, 5 children, Cindy (Randy) Bowling of Connersville, Mark (Joy) May of Milton, Sheryl (Wayne) May-Tabor of Marion, AK, Gina May-Altom of Richmond and Krista (Richard) Carlin of Connersville; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; 1 sister, Marilyn Hamilton of Connersville; 2 half- brothers, David Wert Jr. of Connersville and Gary Wert of New Castle. Robert was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kimberly May.
