Jerry L. Rinehart, 79, of Hagerstown, died Sunday, December 13, 2020, in Greenville, South Carolina, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

He was born in Hagerstown, Indiana on December 24, 1940 to his parents N. Donald Rinehart and Theda Monroe Rinehart, living most of his life in Hagerstown.

Jerry retired after 30 years from Dana Corporation and farmed until a few years ago. He enjoyed collecting and working on vintage cars and farm equipment, as well as woodworking and other creative projects.

Survivors include his son Carvin L. Rinehart (Paul Risch), daughter Pamela Rinehart Polk (Daniel), grandson Brian Carriger (Whitney), and great-grandchildren Adaline and Everett Carriger, siblings William D. Rinehart (Marge), Patricia Rinehart Fisher, Vern Rinehart (Sandy), Charles Rinehart (Jennifer), Marlin Rinehart (Ida), and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary Ruth Riley Rinehart, his parents N. Donald Rinehart and Theda Monroe Rinehart Wallace, and siblings Joenita Rinehart Walker and Donald L. Rinehart.

Jerry donated his body to Parkinson’s disease research. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation at parkinson.org. A private memorial service is pending. Burial will be in at Chicago Corner Church cemetery.
