Betty Smith-Henson, 76, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2020, due to complications from Covid-19. Betty was born Aug 26, 1944, to Alex J and Mary B (Reed) Warren in East Bernstadt KY.
Betty was employed by Wayne County as the County Assessor since 2015. She was also the Richmond Township Assessor for 13 years. Before beginning her government work she had also worked at Cox’s Market where she was Office Manager for 26 years and Hill Rose Products.
Betty was a very caring person and loved working with the public. She was a strong conservative and active member of the Wayne County Republican Party. She also attended 2 Presidential inaugurations.
Betty became a Christian at a very early age and was a dedicated, lifelong member of The Pentecostal Tabernacle. She had held the office of President of The Ladies Auxiliary and was a past Sunday School teacher. She was extremely friendly and never met a stranger. She always put everyone else first and helped anyone in need. She had a heart of gold (Matthew 5:16).
Betty was preceded in death by her first husband of 47 years, James Billy Smith; her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Marvin Benson; sister-in-law, Portia Warren; and great-nephew Derrick George.
Betty and Billy had one son, Steven (Brenda) Smith of Richmond IN; three foster children; Rev. Billy Brown (Melba); Jill (Pratt) Bloomer of Xenia OH and Todd Carlson. Four granddaughters: Rachel (Derrick) Dew and Hailey Smith of Mobile AL; Jessica and Krista Smith of Richmond IN and three great-granddaughters in Mobile.
Betty married her second husband, Clayton Henson in 2013 and gained two daughters Sharon (Scott) Anderson of Liberty IN and Sabrina (Travis) Abney of Centerville IN. six grandchildren Lily and Clay Anderson, Jacob (Haley) Abney. Trenton (Serena) Abney, Hannah & Bethaney Abney, three great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by 4 brothers: Everett (Brenda) Warren of Williamsburg IN; Jerry, Donald, and David Warren of Richmond; and one sister Shirley (Jesse) Sheets of Mason OH.
Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be missed by many: aunts, nieces, nephews, and friends too numerous to mention.
Private funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, December 17, 2020, at the West Eaton Pike Pentecostal Church, with Rev. Tyler Luck officiating. Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Services will be live-streamed through the funeral home Facebook page beginning at 1:00 P.M.
