Louis Earl Conyers, 81, of Union City, formerly of Hagerstown, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, February 22, 2018, at Reid Hospital, Richmond, following a brief illness.
Born November 5, 1936, near Modoc to Charles H. and M. He spent his youth in the Modoc and Losantville area working as a farm hand or doing odd jobs for family and neighbors.
He married Pauline M. Sutherland, daughter of J. Floyd and Mattie (Rich) Sutherland on May 9, 1956 at the Greens Fork Church of the Nazarene. They celebrated 61 years together through many trials and blessings.
Louis was a faithful member of the Church of the Nazarene until illness prevented his attendance at services within the last year. For over 40 years he had been a member of the Greens Fork Church of the Nazarene, serving at various times as Sunday School Superintendent and Trustee. After the church closed in 2001, he first united with the Blountsville Nazarene Church; a few years later with the Hagerstown Nazarene church and after relocating to Union City in 2006 he joined the Nazarene Church in that community.
Louis had been a truck driver since the age of 18, finally retiring in November 2001 when his health began to decline. He began his career driving a milk route for the Red 73 Dairy in Union City; he also hauled for Connersville Casket, Rawlings Caskets, Sherwood, Mid West Emery, Branch Motor Express, Kemper Cabinets, Spartech, and Trans Con.
He enjoyed meeting people, talking about his travels, trucking, and his family. He took pride in the accomplishments of his children.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline, five children, Deborah Jones (William) of Winchester; Mark (Terrie) of Weatherford, TX; Nathaniel (Kimberle) of Cleveland, TN; Timothy of Indianapolis; and Sarah (John) Fields of Union City; two brothers, Robert Conyers of Williamsburg and Harry Conyers of Dublin; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
