RICHMOND, Ind. – Harold A. Hensley, age 97, of Richmond, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, at The Springs of Richmond.
Born Oct. 1, 1921, in Boston, Ind., to Henry Arthur and Clara Agnus Smith Hensley, Harold was a lifelong resident of Wayne County, except for the three years he lived at Dale Hollow Lake in Tennessee.
Harold was a 1938 graduate of Centerville High School. He served in the U.S. Army at the Panama Canal during W.W.II. Harold was a bricklayer and retired from Oberle Construction.
He was a member of Centerville Christian Church and the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 4 IN/KY. Harold loved playing golf; reading, especially Westerns; and watching the Pacers. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his daughter, Elaine (James) Hensley Potter of Cambridge City, Indiana; sons, Larry Alan (Sherry) Hensley of Centerville, Indiana, and Michael Lee (Kelley) Hensley of Richmond; grandchildren, Travis (Melissa) Hensley, Ann (Dr. Todd) Francis, Mark (Stephanie) Potter, Abigail (Nathan) Zachary, Kyle Hensley, and grandson-in-law, Greg Robertson; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Russell Francis Hensley of Richmond; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Tessie Louise Turner Hensley, who died October 7, 1988; granddaughter, Emily Robertson; parents; brother, Robert Charles Hensley; and stepfather, Lemon Vore.
Memorial visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Mills Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St., Centerville. Memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. Dec. 1, at Mills Funeral Home with Chaplain Rick Alvey officiating. Private burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, at the convenience of the family.
