LEWISVILLE- Ruthanne Whitton Pierce, 76, of Lewisville, passed away at her home on Tuesday evening December 4, 2018 while surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on January 22, 1942 to the late Gerald M. and Rebecca V. (Locke) Whitton in New Castle, Indiana.

Ruthanne was a 1960 graduate of Lewisville High School. She was active in 4-H and a cheerleader for the Lewisville Bears. She married the love of her life, D. Rex Pierce on October 9, 1960, in the Lewisville Presbyterian Church.

Ruthanne had worked at Sears in the accounting department and then retired from the U.S. Post Office of Lewisville.

She loved to quilt, garden, Ladies Bible Study, cooking for the family and serving the Lord.

Ruthanne was a longtime member of Southside Church of Christ in New Castle where she taught Bible School, coordinated church dinners and supported the church in as many ways as possible. She loved spending time with her family.

Ruthanne’s 6 grandchildren, 2 children and daughter in-law were the light of her life. She was so proud and loved them all so very much. Ruthanne also loved her cats and watching birds and squirrels from her window.

Ruthanne is survived by her husband of 58 years, Rex Pierce; children, Angela Renee Urove of Chesterfield, VA, Brian David (Courtenay) Pierce of Lewisville; grandchildren, Allison Grace and Caroline Elizabeth Urove of Chesterfield, VA, Cainan Edison, Simon David, Abe Levi and Malachi Asher Pierce of Lewisville; siblings, Paul (Arlene) Whitton of Mt. Clemons, MI and Joan Benson of Charleston SC.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Gerald Whitton, sisters, Judith Schwaab and Scarlett Minton.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday December 8, 2018, at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville Chapel. Bob Pierce will officiate. Burial will follow at Lewisville Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 3-8 p.m. on Friday December 7.
