Paul Gordon Mains went home to be with the Lord on Friday November 24th at 3:30 AM after a long illness.
He was born in Connersville, Indiana on February 2, 1932 to Walter and Pauline May Mains.
He graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1950 and married his high school sweetheart, Janet Marie Lowman, on March 10th 1951. He was in the Air Force from 1952-1955.
In the 60’s and 70’s he worked as a meat manager for Standard Grocery and Marsh Grocery. He then owned and operated Mains Marathon Service Station and car lot from 1973-the mid 80’s. In the 1990’s, he became a bus driver for Fayette County School Corp. until he retired when he was 80 years old. He and his wife Janet had 3 children, Jo Ellen, Michael Paul, and Mark Allen. Paul loved his wife and family, was a great provider, and was an avid golfer and bowler. He loved working in his yard and loved being outdoors. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for many years and attended other churches throughout his lifetime. He loved eating out with his wife and children and just hanging out with his family.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Pauline and Walter Mains and also his two sisters, Ruth Gabbard of Connersville and Gloria Jordan of Cambridge City; three brothers, Samuel Louis of Connersville, Bradley Allan of Chesterfield Indiana, and Junior Mains and a granddaughter Ava June.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Janet Marie Lowman Mains, his daughter Jo Ellen Stevens and her husband Douglas A. Stevens, Michael Paul Mains and his wife Sharleen Rice Mains, and Mark Allen Mains and his wife Jama Snyder Mains, all of Connersville, Indiana. He is also survived by five grandchildren and six great grandchildren, six step grandchildren, and twelve step great grandchildren.
Services for Mr. Mains will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at 2:00 pm, at Urban Winkler Funeral Home, Connersville, with Pastor Richard Ware officiating. Burial with graveside military honors presented by the Fayette County Honor Guard will follow at Lick Creek Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 11:00am until 2:00pm, Tuesday at the funeral home.
