Richmond, Ind. – Lena Francis, age 72, of Richmond, Indiana, died Thursday, December 22, 2016, at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Born October 30, 1944, in Manchester, Kentucky, to Gus and Bam Howard Gray, Lena lived in this community for most of her life.
She retired from Belden after working there for over 25 years. Lena was a member of the Bible Baptist Church, Richmond. She loved the Kentucky Wildcats, video poker, and, most of all, spending time with her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen (Mike) Hoover of Richmond; sons, Keith and Kevin Mathena, both of Richmond; special grandson, Kody, who resided with Lena; stepchildren, Bobby (Judy) Francis and Will Francis; grandchildren, Erica Makurat, Kevin (Michelle) Mathena, Keir Hoover, Korey (Chelsea) Mathena, Kaitlyn Hoover, Jacob Mathena, Kaleb Mathena, Katie Mathena, and Amber, Ashley, Taylor, and Andrew Francis; great-grandchildren, Cayden, Kenzie, Kalvin, Isis, K.J., Karson, Rosie, and Kali; sisters, Anna Lois (Ernie) Gabbard, Beatrice (Raymond) Collins, Lola Diamond, and Mary Jane Gray; brothers, Buck, Dan (Laverne), and Walter Gray; nieces; nephews; many friends, including special friends, Shavaughn Trawick, Donna Matheny, and John “Coffee” Spencer; and former husband, Doug Mathena.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Francis, who died December 30, 2008; parents; and brothers, A.T., Bill, Bobby Ray, Enoch, George, Joe, and Roy Lee Gray.
Visitation for Lena Francis will be from 10:00 to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Fletcher Callahan officiating. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery.
