HAGERSTOWN, Ind. – Joel Evan Stout, 52, of Hagerstown, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, surrounded by his family, following a 1 1/2 year battle with cancer.
He was born in New Castle on December 30, 1964 to Murray and Lucille (Belt) Stout and was a lifelong resident of the Hagerstown area. Joel worked all of his life in agriculture, both on farms and for 22 years at Harvest Land Co-Op.
Survivors include his longtime companion and soul-mate, Shelley Newton; his mother Lucille Dilling (Fred); five children, Alicia Osborne (Jim), Heather Stout (T.J. Bane), Madison Stout, Moriah Stout, and Bronson Brown; three grandchildren, Anthony Bane, Grayson Osborne and Max Bane; best friends, Melissa and Barry Ritter; four brothers, Gary Stout (Barbara), Greg Stout (Juli), Jeff Stout (Jeanna), and Jon Stout (Marcia); many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1988 and grandparents, Clarence and Thelma Stout and Clarence and Martha Belt.
Visitation will be from 10 AM to 12 noon on Saturday, October 28, at Nettle Creek Church of the Brethren. Services will follow at 12 noon. Pastor Brian Mackie and Pastor Dan Poole will officiate. Burial will be in Brick Cemetery. In accordance with Joel’s wishes, the family has requested that you please dress casually.
Memorials may be made to the Indiana Epilepsy Foundation or to American Cancer Society.
