Obituaries - Howard Edward Telker

Howard Edward Telker, 86, a longtime member of the Brownsville community, passed away Saturday morning, October 7, 2017, at the Whitewater Commons Senior Living Center, of Liberty, Indiana.

He was born on September 15, 1931, in Franklin County, Indiana, one of three children of Edward and Elsie Howell Telker and was a graduate of Brownsville High School with the class of 1949.

During the Korean Conflict, Howard served his country in the United States Marine Corps, obtaining the rank of Sergeant.

On December 4, 1955, he was married at the Brownsville United Methodist Church to Charlotte Ann May. Mrs. Telker survives.

He began driving a school bus for Brownsville Township followed by Union County School Corporation, retiring in the early 1970’s after fourteen years of service. He had also been employed with Kroger Grocery in the Produce Department and at Brunner Motor Company. For several years, he worked at Custom Extrusions of Connersville and Miles Richmond. He also farmed locally and was a carpenter, working for Ron Coffman for many years.

Howard was a member of the Brownsville United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Free & Accepted Masons Brownsville Lodge #70 where he twice served as Grand Master. Howard was an avid I. U. Basketball fan and was a Little League baseball coach and Babe Ruth baseball coach where his team went undefeated one year.
Besides his wife of sixty-one years, Charlotte Telker, survivors include four children, Michael Evan (Rachel) Telker, of Brownsville, Jeryl Lynn Telker, of Liberty, Stephan Mark Telker, of Brownsville and Denna Lee (Phillip) Cooper, of Brookville; eight grandchildren, Shelli Walton of Liberty, Sheri Ann (Jeremy) of Connersville, Jo Ann (John) Luce of Centerville, Jessica (David) Dixon of Richmond, Jerrod (Amber) Cooper of Brookville, Kaylyn (Joe) Hooker of Richmond, Christian (Raegan) Telker and Kai Telker all of Brownsville; thirteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Finch, of Liberty; three nieces, Connie (Randy) Call of Eaton, Ohio, Pat (Butch) Finch Smith of Brookville, and Peggy (Terry) Finch Hartman of Liberty.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Helen Parks.

A memorial service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at Brownsville United Methodist Church, 216 South Main Street, Brownsville, Indiana. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Masonic service at 12:00 noon at the church. Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
