Obituaries - Donald Eugene Eichacker

Donald Eugene Eichacker, 86, formerly of Connersville, now residing in McCordsville, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.

One of four children of Lloyd Anthony and Ethel Christian Eichacker, Donald was born on February 28, 1931 in Batesville, Indiana. Don moved to Fayette County with his family as a young child and graduated from Bentonville High School with the class of 1949.

Don spent his career serving his country in the United States Air Force, having been stationed at Walker Air Force Base in Roswell, New Mexico and Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas. During the Vietnam War, he was a tail gunner for three air bombers, B-29, B-36, and B-52. Don retired with the rank of Master Sergeant.
Following his retirement, Don moved back to Fayette County for residence where he was a licensed instructor pilot and a corporate pilot for Roger’s Engineering.

Don had been a member of Amvets Post #11 where he served as Post Commander, VFW Post #571, American Legion Post #1. He had also been a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Connersville Aerie #1065.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Billington, of Roswell, New Mexico; two grandchildren, Shannon Tyler and Brittany Arellano and husband, Shane, all of Roswell, New Mexico; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale A. Eichacker and wife, Linda, of Pendleton, Indiana; two sisters, Alberta Spurgin, of Bentonville, Indiana and Marcia Conley and husband, Lowell, of Richmond, Indiana. He is also blessed with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis I. Neukam Eichacker, who passed away April 16, 2012; his parents and a grandson, Christian Tyler.

Military Graveside Honors were held at 4 PM, Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Bentonville Cemetery conducted by U. S. Air Force Honor Guard and the Fayette County Veterans Council.
