Charles David Lanning Jr., 68, a lifelong Rush County resident passed away Friday September 29, 2017 at St. Francis hospital in Indianapolis, IN.
He was born on December 22, 1948 in Batesville, IN to Charles David and Velma Irene (Watkins) Lanning Sr.
He attended Brookville Nazarene Church and Lee Wallace School until his family moved to Rush County in 1957. David was a 1968 graduate of Rushville High School, and later attended Olivet Nazarene College in Kankakee IL. for four years, and sang with the Viking Male Chorus there.
David married Penny Dungan on May 14, 1994, and worked at Freudenberg Nok in Morristown as a press operator for 39 years retiring in 2013. David was considered the family genealogist and historian, and enjoyed antiquing, collecting books and records, reading and traveling. He was a member of the Rushville Church of the Nazarene and served as the music director for 8 years, as well as a member of the Andersonville Church of the Nazarene and is a current member of Ben Davis Creek Christian Church where he served as an ordained Deacon, Elder, Trustee and board member.
In addition to his wife Penny of Rushville, David is survived by his father Charles David Lanning Sr. of Rushville and son Jonathan Lanning also of Rushville.
David was preceded in death by his mother Velma and a sister Brenda Combs.
Services will be held at 1 PM Friday, October 6, 2017 at Ben Davis Creek Christian Church, 6016 E. 250 N. Rushville. Pastor Howard Bullard will preside. Friends are welcome to visit from 4-8 PM Thursday October 5, 2017 at the church. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville, IN.
