Inspectors discovered three critical and 12 noncritical violations during recent routine inspections of local food establishments.
The violations included lighting issues, unsanitary employee practices, missing or malfunctioning equipment, and dirt, dust and food debris in food and bar areas.
Establishments are required to post the most recent routine inspection form adjacent to the front public entrance for potential customers to view.
Wayne County Health Department employees collected these concerns between Dec. 6-29.
Critical violations
- Dec. 18: Forest Hills Country Club, 2169 S. 23rd St., Richmond. One critical: No date marks on cooked food in the walk-in cooler. To be corrected that day.
- Dec. 16: Reid Health Café at Twelve Hundred, 1100 Reid Parkway, Richmond. One critical: No lid on employee drink. To be corrected that day. Two noncritical: Inaccurate stem-type thermometer. Self-service cookies had no ingredient labels. Both to be corrected that day.
- Dec. 9: Thai Thara, 1000 Chester Blvd., Richmond. One critical: Four large-mouth beverage containers observed in food preparation areas. To be corrected that day. Three noncritical: Single-service bags reused to store food. Food preparation area lighting measured below 50 foot-candles. Knife with duct-taped handle cannot be properly washed, rinsed and sanitized. All to be corrected that day.
Noncritical violations
- Dec. 20: Pizza King, 114 S. U.S. 27, Fountain City. One noncritical: Dirty air vents. To be corrected that day.
- Dec. 12: Main Street Quick Pix, 2 E. Main St., Cambridge City. One noncritical: Soda nozzles observed with food residue/debris. To be corrected that day.
- Dec. 11: Yamato Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi, 4710 National Road E., Richmond. Two noncritical: No hand soap or paper towels at hand sink by walk-in cooler. To be corrected that day.
- Dec. 10: Big Boyz, 239 W. Main St., Cambridge City. Three noncritical: Walk-in cooler fan guards covered with dirt and dust-like substance. Manual can opener in need of repair. Both to be corrected by Dec. 17. Hot water knob at the dish room’s handwashing station not functioning properly. To be corrected that day.

- Dec. 11: The Coney Island, 750 S. Seventh St., Richmond. Items corrected.

- Dec. 10: Victor’s Mexican Taqueria & Grill, 1304 N.W. Fifth St., Richmond. Inspection of mobile food truck for establishment. Requirements met.

Inspections
Wayne County Health Department inspects local stores, restaurants, schools and other food providers at least twice per year. If any critical violations are found, inspectors follow up to ensure the establishment has made the necessary corrections. They also make visits if members of the public submit complaints.
