In 11 minutes, Northeastern Wayne School Corp. addressed nearly that many items during its Wednesday, April 15, board meeting.

NWS leaders planned a short meeting so they could attend a regional meeting of school board members in Hagerstown that evening.

Superintendent Jennifer O’Brien shared a state-required notice that in calendar year 2025, NWS had transferred 1.97% more than it should have from its education fund revenue to its operations fund.

According to Indiana Department of Education, Indiana Code 20-40-2-6 requires school corporations to make every reasonable effort to transfer not more than 15% of total revenue deposited in the education fund to the operations fund during a calendar year.

The state requires Northeastern’s 16.97% transfer to be announced in board minutes and on its website.

O’Brien said that in November 2025, NWS’ board approved a resolution for the transfer percentage from education to operations to be 15% to avoid future issues.

O’Brien became NWS’ interim superintendent in August 2025 and full superintendent the next month.

After the meeting, she told WWN that NWS ended the year with a positive cash balance and remaining funds in operations and education.

The vote was 4-0; Dan VanDuyne was absent.
