The Northeastern Wayne school board hired a new superintendent, a high school principal and a middle school principal at its Wednesday night meeting.
Dr. Matthew Hicks, who has served as Northeastern High School principal since fall 2018, is the new superintendent. He replaces Dr. Laura Blessing, who will leave the corporation July 31 to become the superintendent of Miamisburg City schools in Miamisburg, Ohio.
Mark Childs was hired as interim high school principal. Childs had a long career as principal at Hagerstown Junior-Senior High School and most recently he served as director of alternative education for Western Wayne Schools in Cambridge City.
Kelly Plank was hired as Northeastern Middle School principal. She replaces Dawn Sonsini, who has taken the role of director of learning for Nettle Creek schools at Hagerstown.
Northeastern will start school in the fall with new administrators at every level. At the last school board meeting, Jamie Harshman was hired as principal of Northeastern Elementary School. She previously served as principal at Union Elementary School at Modoc.
