Northeastern students will use Chromebooks for the 2026-2027 school year. The decision was voted on 3-2 at a special school board meeting on Feb. 25.

The transition to Chromebooks ensures the district complies with new legislation requiring that school learning devices come with secure filtering measures. Superintendent Jennifer O’Brien also cited a cost-saving advantage by transitioning from their current Apple iPads to the Google-made laptops.

Board members Kim Claypoole and Angela Smith were the two opposing votes. Both had previously expressed interest in maintaining access to iPad tablets for younger students.

The second agenda item reversed a proposal amending e-Learning days to three snow makeup days. Officials said parent feedback and other data made clear that e-Learning is the best option for instruction when the building is closed due to inclement weather.

Both agenda items had been tabled for further discussion at the board’s Feb. 18 meeting.
