A new grantee was included in United Way of Whitewater Valley’s 2026-27 grant cycle. Nettle Creek Community Coalition received $15,000 for a new community van. The vehicle purchase will assist the organization in its efforts to combat food insecurity in nearby communities of rural western Wayne County.
Located at 47 E. Main St., Hagerstown, the pantry was founded by Jefferson Township Trustee Chris Lane in response to a growing need for food assistance in rural communities. Today, it serves Hagerstown, Cambridge City, Greens Fork, Economy, Dalton, Milton, Dublin, Pershing, Losantville, Jacksonburg, Williamsburg and surrounding rural areas.
“The new community van will allow us to launch our Shut-In Program, providing food deliveries to neighbors throughout western Wayne County communities who are unable to visit our food pantry because of medical conditions, disabilities or mobility challenges,” Lane said in a press release. “United Way of Whitewater Valley’s commitment to addressing local needs makes it possible for us to reach some of our community’s most vulnerable residents and ensure they are not forgotten.”
