Some high schools learned last week that they have additional teams qualifying for Business Professionals of America’s state competition.
Centerville, Lincoln, Northeastern and Richmond students competed at BPA’s regional contest in December. Some BPA team results were still being determined when the majority of placements were published in Western Wayne News’ Dec. 17 edition.
Those teams’ events are pre-judged and the top 12 teams across Indiana qualify to compete at the state conference, which takes place March 8-10 in Indianapolis.
- Centerville’s podcast team of Addie Butler, Victoria Pullon, Myleigh Hartman and Aubree Barnes, and website design team of AJ Brock and Zach DeHoff, also advanced. BPA will now have 46 members competing at state.
- Lincoln’s visual design team of Audrina Johnson, Sage Nichols, Mia Cansler, and Madison Cameron qualified for state. LHS has 44 state competitors.
- Richmond has three more teams competing at state. They are: website design: Mason Wetzel, Noah Spicer, David Brazil and Jason Ngo; visual design: Nicholas Stout and Kyson Williams; and podcast production: Brayden Haller, Ben Holliday, Jacob Lindahl and Hendrix Morken. All 33 of RHS’ BPA members qualified for state contests.
- Northeastern has no additional teams qualifying, but the recently formed chapter has 19 students competing at state.
All four local chapters are soliciting funds to help members defray lodging and competition expenses. Donations can be sent to each high school, noting the contribution is for BPA.
RHS members are currently selling Mancino’s pizza certificates through Jan. 30. Those interested in purchasing them can contact adviser Denise Selm at denises@rcs.k12.in.us.
BPA is a national cocurricular career/technical organization for students in middle school, high school, and college business and technology programs.
Through BPA, students compete at regional, state and national levels in more than 50 Workplace Skills Assessment Program events, engage in community and leadership service activities, and meet fellow business students from around Indiana and the nation.
