The Richmond Police Department Merit Commission demoted an RPD investigator to patrolman during a special session April 3.
Jeremy Worch will not be fired as recommended by RPD administration. During the quick meeting attended by about 30 people, most of them RPD officers, the merit commission members denied terminating Worch. They also recommended Worch receive mental health support concentrating on anger management.
No details about what caused Worch to enter the Merit Commission’s disciplinary process were discussed because the commission conducted its hearing about the case March 24 during an executive session. Rather than make a statement about the case, RPD administration referred WWN to the city’s public records request process to receive related documents. The public records request had not been fulfilled by the WWN’s publication deadline.
RPD’s Merit Commission, which was formed in 1977, has authority for hiring, promoting and disciplining the city’s police officers.
