Hagerstown council approved a land swap with Ed and Robin Nugent during public comment at its Monday, June 1, meeting. Ownership of 51 S. Perry St. and 65 W. Main St. was exchanged with the difference of $16,750. A public hearing will be held to inform adjacent property owners of the purchase. The town seeks to transform the new property into a veterans memorial park. 

A new ordinance first proposed at an April 6 meeting was approved, updating fire protection service fees to reflect state standards as recommended by Indiana’s fire marshal. 

Town attorney Jon Madison provided updates on the pole attachment agreement with Frontier, a previous golf cart ordinance and the railroad issue near AutoCar. Madison is also finalizing a property sale with David and Laura Crowe-Moore. 

Town manager Chris LaMar highlighted some corrective work from the water line project, progress with the employee handbook, and a service to connect Willow Springs to Hagerstown sewage. 

In liaison reports, the park board is installing dog park equipment, the fire department will seal its lot, the airport board’s tree harvesting will be pushed to the fall and the police are preparing for fireworks at the airport on Saturday, July 4. This year’s Jubilee Days are scheduled for July 31 and Aug. 1.

The next meeting will be Monday, July 6, at 6:30 p.m., 49 E. College St. The public may attend.
