The Lady Rockets of Union High School traveled to Cambridge City on Friday, Dec. 6 for a nonconference game in the Eagles’ Nest. Both teams’ scoring lagged early, battling to a 2-2 tie at the end of the first quarter. The Eagles struggled to get good shots against the Rockets’ zone defense in the second period while the Rockets started to score. By halftime the Rockets had an 18-4 lead, and by the end of the third quarter, they expanded their lead to 32-11.

Frustrations between the two teams boiled over with two minutes to play in the final period. An altercation broke out, leading to the ejection of a player from each team. At the end of the game, both teams were escorted to their dressing rooms without shaking hands.

Kenzy Ogden led the Rockets with 14 points and Glory Ellis scored 13 points. Addyson Pitcock led the Eagles with 11 points.

Union head coach Ryan Chiddister was pleased with his team’s defense but regretted the game’s end.

“The girls executed our defensive plan very well,” Chiddister said. “They have been working hard in practice and they are a joy to coach. But I am sorry for the way the game ended. That is not who we are.”

Lincoln head coach Dylan Miller was not available for comment.
