Northeastern easily won the Richmond golf sectional played on Thursday, June 5, at the Elks Country Club, but there was a log jam for second, third and fourth place. The Knights fought through ever-changing weather conditions to post a school record score of 311 and claim the sectional trophy by 12 strokes. It was the first sectional championship in golf for Northeastern, and their team score was the lowest winning score in the sectional since 2013.

The top three teams advanced to the regional round, as well as the top three individual golfers not on an advancing team. Only one stroke separated the second through fourth-place teams.

Hagerstown tied with Connersville for second and third with a score of 323. Hagerstown was awarded second place using the score of the fifth-place golfer as a tiebreaker. Centerville just missed a regional trip as a team with a score of 324, but will send Brady Moore (69) and Boston Beatty (78) to the regional as individual qualifiers. Kameryn Reuss from Union County (80) was the third individual regional qualifier.

Centerville’s Brady Moore was sectional medalist with a 1-under 69.

Moore, a Centerville senior, earned medalist honors with a one-under-par round of 69. Landon Helms tied the Northeastern school record for both nine holes (33) and eighteen holes with a score of 71 to place second in the individual standings, and teammate Hayden Chalfant posted a score of 74 to place third.

The teams and top three individuals advance to the regional round to be played at the Champions Pointe Golf Club in Henryville, Indiana, on Thursday, June 12.
