Although many local organizations gratefully accept donations all year long, here are a few special efforts to spotlight as the holidays approach:

  • Hagerstown: Nettle Creek Schools seeks donations of nonperishable foods for students to take home on weekends. Canned goods, boxed meals, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, granola bars and fruit cups are suggested. Items can be delivered from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays to the schools’ administration office, 297 E. Northmarket St., Hagerstown.
  • Richmond: Food, toys, money and diapers are among the desired donations for local organizations during a 6 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 15 collection at Walmart, 3601 E. Main St. Community Food Pantry, Toys for Tots and Dwyer Community Center will benefit.
  • Cambridge City: Until Dec. 12, sponsors may visit Golay Community Center, 1007 E. Main St., Cambridge City, to choose a child on its Angel Tree. Ages 0-14 are eligible. Gifts should be returned by Dec. 13. There’s no set amount to spend. Call 765-478-5565 for more information.
