Inspectors discovered one critical and seven noncritical violations during recent routine food inspections of local establishments.

The violations ranged from improper storage of food and single-serve items to dirty cooking areas and utensils. Wayne County Health Department employees collected those concerns between June 20 -July 1.

Critical violation

  • June 25: Reid Health, 1100 Reid Parkway, Richmond. One critical. Employees were observed changing their gloves and not washing their hands. To be corrected that day.

Non-critical violations

  • June 20: Speed Up 5/Godfather’s Pizza/Dairy Queen, 2351 Centerville Road, Centerville. Five noncriticals. Employees observed without a hair restraint. Fan guards in the reach-in cooler of Godfather’s were observed dirty and in need of cleaning. To be corrected by June 20. Lights in the back room of Dairy Queen were observed not working. Three-bay sink of Godfather’s needed caulking. Bathroom door of Speed Up didn’t have a self-closing door. To be corrected by July 20.
  • June 25: Reid Health, 1100 Reid Parkway, Richmond. One noncritical. Noncritical: Employees observed without a hair restraint. Corrected during inspection.
  • June 27: Pizza King #63, 114 S. U.S. 27, Fountain City. One noncritical. Two spray bottles were not labeled with contents. Corrected during inspection.

Follow-up

  • June 27: Olde Richmond Inn, 138 S. Fifth St., Richmond. Follow-up from May 21 inspection when three criticals (bare hands assembling salad, no handwashing before adding gloves and four employees’ cups in food prep areas) and two noncriticals were found. Items corrected. 
  • June 27: Thai Thara, 1000 Chester Blvd., Richmond. Follow-up from June 6 inspection, when four criticals (food manager certification expired, soiled knives, raw meat stored over vegetables and four spray bottles not labeled with cleaning chemical contents) and seven noncriticals were found. Items corrected. 

Complaint

  • June 24: Fountain City Food Mart (Marathon), 402 U.S. 27 S., Fountain City. Customer complained about mice. Inspector observed mouse droppings. Establishment needs to contact the extermination company, schedule service and submit service receipt to WCHD by June 28.

Temporary permits

No violations were found, and all were authorized on June 21 or 22 to operate at local events (primarily Wayne County 4-H Fair).

(Corn Dogs/Fries/Lemonade Tent, Mac+Cheese Food Truck, Funnel Cake/Corn Dogs and Slush Factories 1 and 2), Frontline Coffee Co., Fatty Daddyz Finger Food, Sweet Treatz and Sub Shack.

No violations

  • AMC-Richmond, La Luz Del Mundo, Seldom Scene Bed & Breakfast, 9 Shumaker Meat Farm, Kona Ice of Connersville, Just Smokin LLC, The Meat Express (Meat In Buns), E Street Pub, Texas Roadhouse- Richmond, Dougherty Orchards. 

Inspections

Wayne County Health Department inspects local stores, restaurants, schools and other food providers at least twice a year. If any critical violations are found, inspectors follow up to ensure the establishment has made the necessary corrections. They also make visits if members of the public submit complaints.
