Wayne County Board of Health is shifting to a new electronic records software, and will pursue a new mobile unit after approval at its Oct. 13 meeting.
Wayne County Health Department Director Dan Burk presented an agreement with MyVisit to handle the department’s electronic medical records system. Owned by Track My Solutions Inc., MyVisit would provide billing and credentialing services on an annual contract for 10% of revenue, invoiced monthly.
Burk cited better customer service and one bill for both services as benefits compared to its current vendor, Athena. The agreement has a 60-day and emergency 30-day termination notice without penalty. The goal is to transition completely from Athena by next year.
Burk provided two quotes for the mobile unit replacement: a motorized unit ($264,000) with all clinical equipment included, and quotes for a truck ($80,000) trailer ($165,000) and equipment installation ($6,000). Burk will discuss the options with the fleet committee and seek commissioners’ approval. A rural health grant will fund the purchase.
The department received 14 applicants for an environmental specialist position, and it will interview four applicants for two rural health worker positions. An agreement with Jay County to provide lead testing services awaits finalization and the self-dispensing prescription program with RX Fusion will go live Nov. 1 with a six-month trial period.
Revenue for the first three quarters of 2026 is $302,600.21, an 8% increase compared with last year’s $278,232.74. Burk commented that state departments will advocate for legislation to increase health department budgets for 2028 and 2029.
Measles and flu vaccines
Health Officer Dr. Jennifer Bales reported that as of Oct. 9, Indiana had 30 measles cases and six hospitalizations. Wayne County remained at eight confirmed cases. She noted cases can only be documented if a patient submits for testing.
Given the heightened risk, she recommended that traveling families with infants under the 12-month threshold for the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine ask their provider about the option to give an early MMR dose between six and 11 months.
Bales reminded that flu season is here and vaccines for individuals six months and older are available. If 65 and older, a high-dose option is available and four times stronger than the standard dose. The health department provides both.
Reports
For September, clinical services provided 83 child and 326 adult vaccines, five off-site and homebound vaccine clinics each, and saw a slight uptick in some STI treatments. They are available to provide covid and flu vaccines for businesses and school systems upon request.
Environmental services inspected 95 flood-affected wells for E. coli and coliform bacteria, which are associated with sewage contamination, and 47 received an unsatisfactory score. Eighteen were retested with 10 still needing assistance.
WCHD recorded 200 animal bites and received nine food complaints. Specialists will attend training in Noblesville.
Other business
The board will vote in December as at least two member terms end this year; the website is being updated; new building status will be provided from the commissioners meeting; and the November meeting is canceled.
The Wayne County Board of Health meets every second Tuesday of the month at noon in Commissioners/Council Chambers, 401 E. Main St., Richmond. The public may attend.
