Girls Inc. of Wayne County has named Stasia Veramallay the county’s newest Athena Leadership Award recipient, recognizing her professional success, community service and support of women and girls.

Veramallay, a financial adviser with Vista Investment Partners, launched the Wise Women financial education series and spent 13 years leading a Girl Scout troop. She also has served with organizations including Sister Cities, Kiwanis, Main Street Richmond, Hope House, Reid Foundation, Morrisson-Reeves Library and Indiana University East.

She will be honored Aug. 28 alongside Athena Young Professional award recipient Sarah (Roddy) Herrmann and Girl of the Year Taylor Walton.

Girls Inc. also introduced two new honors. Gwen Tompkins received the Rising Girl of the Year award for leadership and kindness among younger participants. Whitewater Construction received the Raise the Roof Champion award for helping stabilize and protect Girls Inc.’s South Eighth Street building after March storm damage through donated labor, materials and support during recovery efforts.

Girls Inc. is temporarily operating from Richmond Senior Recreation Center, 1600 S. Second St., while rebuilding efforts continue.
