Four women and one girl are being honored in November for being strong, smart, bold and inspiring.

Girls Inc. of Wayne County will honor the quintet at its “Paint Her a Better Future” fundraising dinner from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15. It’s at First Bank Kuhlman Center, 861 Salisbury Road N., Richmond.

The event celebrates their remarkable achievements, leadership and dedication to creating a better, stronger future for girls in the community, a news release said.

Honorees are recognized for each embodying a key pillar of the Girls Inc. mission:

  • Strong Award: Sgt. Ami Miller, Richmond Police Department
  • Smart Award: Anna Osborn-Brown, senior director of Reid Health’s inpatient nursing, emergency and urgent care
  • Bold Award: Angela Coffey, program director of Crystal Dreams Foundation and owner of Legacy Sea Moss
  • Inspiring Award: Jessica Przybysz, director of Reid Health’s Community Health & Benefit
  • Girl of the Year: Alejandra Salazar, a standout member for her positive impact on her peers and her commitment to being strong, smart and bold.

Tai Muldoon, local chief executive officer, said staff and volunteers look forward to honoring these inspiring women.

“Their passion, strength, intelligence, boldness and dedication to our community and the next generation are exactly what we strive to cultivate in our girls,” Muldoon said. “Our girl of the year embodies all of these things and more and we cannot wait to honor her alongside these amazing individuals.”

The dinner is the organization’s signature event, aiming to bring together community leaders, supporters and advocates to celebrate the power of girls and the individuals who champion their success.

Proceeds from the $75 tickets will support local after-school and summer programs that empower girls in Wayne and Union counties to navigate gender, economic and social barriers to achieve their dreams. Tickets can be reserved at secure.qgiv.com/for/girlsincsignatureevent2024/
