Fountain City has formed the Fountain City Forward nonprofit Main Street organization.

The group is committed to maximizing opportunities for historical preservation, revitalization and beautification as well as technological and safety enhancements, according to a news release. Fountain City Forward is working with the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs to obtain Indiana Main Street designation.

After an initial meeting last June with the Wayne County Area Chamber of Commerce and Forward Wayne County, Fountain City community members formed a board of directors, created and approved bylaws, and filed articles of incorporation, and the IRS granted nonprofit status in October.

Kristy Anderson is the board president, with Robert Williams as vice president, Elizabeth Williams as secretary and Anthony Johnson as treasurer. Members include Rett Foster, Angie Smith, Keith Webster and Terry Wiesehan.

Projects for the year include beautification projects, promotion of local businesses and events around the April 8 total solar eclipse. More information about the organization is available at fountaincityforward.org.

Cambridge City, Centerville, Hagerstown and Richmond have Main Street organizations.
