Volunteering in Fountain City can be as simple as watering flowers.

Fountain City Forward is seeking help with several programs as it plans festivities that celebrate the town all year long, and this year, the United States’ 250th anniversary.

One planned project is patriotic fire hydrant painting.

“We are going to try and put an America250 spin on many of our events for the year if we can,” said board member Elizabeth Williams.

The nonprofit organization aims to maximize opportunities for historic preservation, revitalization and beautification, and technological and safety enhancement.

Opportunities include helping continue events such as Bark Side of the Moon 5K Glow Run and Pet Walk, business pop-ins, end-of-summer block party, Levi Coffin Days booths and parade, Christmas decorating contest, and the Hometown Holiday and Lighted Christmas Parade.

The board also welcomes help with ongoing efforts such as marketing and media, grant writing, restoration labor, town-wide cleanup efforts, and recording historical events.

FCF’s additional 2025 accomplishments include adding a Little Free Library at Northeastern’s Early Learning Center and flashing speed limit signs, sales of T-shirts and a local recipe book, and receiving a $15,000 grant from Wayne County Foundation for its Hometown Heroes banner program, 10 concrete flower planters and four outdoor movies.

FCF successfully became an Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs’ Ongoing Designated Accredited Main Street last year.

To get involved, email fountaincityforward@gmail.com or attend FCF’s next meeting at 7 p.m. April 2 at the fire station, 312 W. Main St.
