Inspectors discovered 20 critical and 30 noncritical violations during recent routine inspections of local food establishments.
The violations included dirt, mold, food debris, food splatter and unsanitary employee practices.
Establishments are required to post the most recent routine inspection form adjacent to the front public entrance for potential customers to view.
Wayne County Health Department employees collected these concerns between Oct. 18-Nov. 8, 2024.
Critical Violations
- Nov. 8: El Trebol Mexican Market, 1625 E. Main St., Richmond. Four critical: Non-sanitized equipment and utensils: corrected. Employees drinking from beverage containers without washing hands: corrected. Employee drying hands on apron: corrected. Hand sink inaccessible due to pitcher placed in basin: corrected. One noncritical: Multiple customer items stored on shelves without proper labeling. To be corrected by Feb. 18, 2025.
- Nov. 6: Winding Branch Golf Club, 2290 S. Germantown Rd., East Germantown. One critical: Hot dogs not date-marked. Corrected.
- Nov. 5: Long John Silver’s/A&W, 3707 National Road E., Richmond. One critical: Icemaker interior soiled with a mold-like substance. Corrected. Four noncritical: Outside trash and grease containers have lids up when not being filled; open employee beverage containers in food preparation areas. Both were corrected. Food prep table exposed to hand sink splash. To be corrected Nov. 15. Peeling/chipping paint on walls and ceilings over food prep areas. To be corrected by Dec. 30.
- Nov. 4: Galo’s Italian Restaurant, 107 Garwood Road, Richmond. Three critical: Walk-in cooler with raw fish/shellfish stored over cooked chicken; raw beef stored over produce. Both were corrected. Food prep table with chipped laminate/exposed wood. To be corrected by Dec. 4. Four noncritical: Dust buildup on walk-in cooler ceiling; faucet does not fully shut off. Both to be corrected by Nov. 11. Hand sink not fully sealed to the wall; Wall coverings in need of repair. Both to be corrected by Dec. 4.
- Nov. 4: Speed Up 5/Godfather’s/Dairy Queen, 2351 N. Centerville Road, Centerville. One critical: Two bags of chicken wings dated for use by Oct. 29, 2024. Discarded.
- Nov. 1: The Coney Island, 750 S. Seventh St., Richmond. One critical: Equipment left in the hand sink, making sink inaccessible. Corrected.
- Oct. 30: Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, 6050 National Road E., Richmond. One critical: Tomatoes/pickles/pot roast in walk-in cooler at 44-46 degrees Fahrenheit instead of 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Corrected.
- Oct. 30: Inn Zone, 1001 N. E St., Richmond. Four critical: Chili container not datemarked and observed at 61.1 degrees Fahrenheit. Corrected—voluntarily discarded. Hot dogs, ranch dressing, sour cream and ground beef observed between 55-60 degrees Fahrenheit. Corrected—voluntarily discarded. A new Certified Food Manager must be assigned. To be corrected by Jan. 30, 2025. Two noncritical: Two refrigerators in need of repair. To be corrected by Nov. 13.
- Oct. 29: Fazoli’s, 4711 National Road E., Richmond. Two critical: Three open employee beverage containers in the food preparation area; ceiling within the icemaker soiled with a mold-like substance. Both were corrected. Four noncritical: Reach-in cooler monitor stand heavily soiled with dust and debris; mop placed in mop sink instead of being hung to dry; employee hair not restrained while working in food preparation areas. All were corrected. Several walls near food preparation areas soiled with food debris/splatter. To be corrected by Nov. 5.
- Oct. 28: La Mexicana Grill, 519 N.W. Fifth St., Richmond. One critical: Raw chicken container stored over containers of salsa, tomatoes and beef. Corrected. One noncritical: Floor and wall junctures soiled with dried food and debris. Corrected.
- Oct. 28: Way 2 Go Mart, 1240 N.W. Fifth St., Richmond. One critical: Establishment does not have a Certified Food Manager on staff. To be corrected by April 28, 2025.
Noncritical Violations
- Nov. 6: Needler’s Fresh Market, 501 National Road W., Richmond. Three noncritical: Rotisserie chicken stem-type thermometer measured 20 degrees Fahrenheit in ice water mixture, rather than 32 degrees Fahrenheit; milk cooler fan guards soiled with dust. Both were corrected. Rear delivery door with gap greater than ¼” at bottom. To be corrected by Nov. 20.
- Nov. 5: Arby’s West, 215 National Road, Richmond. Two noncritical: Food residue and a mold-like substance on soda nozzles at drive-thru and in the dining room. Corrected. Chemical test kit not provided. To be corrected by Nov. 12.
- Nov. 5: Roscoe’s Coffee Bar & Tap Room, 416 N. 10th St., Richmond. One noncritical: No chemical test kit provided. To be corrected by Nov. 12.
- Nov. 4: Speedway #1230, 4382 National Road E., Richmond. One noncritical: Manager advised cabinet replacement will be installed Nov. 11.

Inspections
Wayne County Health Department inspects local stores, restaurants, schools and other food providers at least twice per year. If any critical violations are found, inspectors follow up to ensure the establishment has made the necessary corrections. They also make visits if members of the public submit complaints.
