Amanda and Cody Lane celebrated the new year by welcoming a new life at 5:18 a.m. on Jan. 1. Cade Lane, the Richmond couple’s newborn boy, received the honor of being Reid Health’s first baby born in 2026.
Cade, weighing 7 pounds, 14.8 ounces, was an early surprise as Amanda was scheduled to be induced on Friday, Jan. 2.
“We weren’t expecting a New Year’s Day baby. He came naturally on his own time,” Amanda said. Three hours after checking in at Reid Health’s Family Birthing Center, the couple introduced their 2-year-old son, Colton, to his new brother.
As the family prepared to go home the next day, Cody described being nervously excited about the days to come.
“Our experience has been amazing. We’re both happy. I’d say those are two pretty good words,” he said.
