A baker, Realtor, physician assistant, aquatics coordinator and a school superintendent are among the competitors seeking to win a dancing competition.
Birth to Five is again organizing its Dancing with the Stars of Wayne County fundraiser.
This year’s event is from 6-9:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Forest Hills Country Club, 2169 S. 23rd St., Richmond.
Participating dancers are Derric Watson and Dana North, Adam Spurlock and Adalyn Spurlock, Brandon and Elly Guth, Stacie Shepherd and Richmond Belly Dance, and Northeastern Wayne Superintendent Matthew Hicks and his wife, Terra.
Tickets are $75 per person and include social time, dinner, the dance competition, additional entertainment, a silent auction and open dancing. Ticket buyers can select a dance team to support at the time of purchase to benefit the team’s fundraising total.
Birth to Five offers free services to support development, health and early education for any Wayne County family with young children. They include activity suggestions, screenings to identify developmental delays and resources if any are found, social service connections, kindergarten readiness activities, and personalized home visits.
Birth to Five is offering five free playgroups starting this week that are open to any Wayne County family. No reservations are required.
Weekly groups are offered in gymnasiums from 10-11 a.m. Mondays at YMCA, 1215 S. J St., Richmond; 10-11 a.m. Tuesdays at Rose Hamilton Elementary, 1281 Round Barn Road, Centerville; 10-11 a.m. Wednesdays at Western Wayne Schools/Wayne Bank Boys & Girls Club, 519 Queen St., Pershing; and 10 a.m.-noon Thursdays at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 121 S. 18th St., Richmond.
A new monthly group is starting Sept. 4 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the courtyard of Friends Fellowship Community, 2030 Chester Blvd., Richmond. If it’s well attended, more dates might be added.
Another playgroup has begun for grandparents raising grandchildren. It meets occasionally.
