Several arts organizations are celebrating America’s 250th birthday with music, food vendors, a community art project and other activities.

The celebration is called “A Creative Rebellion: The Spirit of Freedom.”

It takes place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, July 11, near Richmond Civic Theatre at the corner of 10th and Main streets in downtown Richmond.

The family friendly event includes a meet and greet with the country’s founding fathers, who are actors in RCT’s upcoming production of “1776 The Musical.”

Performances of the Tony-winning musical are Aug. 6-9 and 13-16. It dramatizes the intense political struggles within the Second Continental Congress to declare independence from Britain. John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson work to persuade reluctant colonies to vote for separation. Despite bitter debate and significant compromises, they create the new nation.

An art and artifact showcase also opens at the July celebration.

Partners include Richmond Art Museum, Whitewater Valley Arts Association, Art Association of Randolph County, Main Street Richmond and Wayne County Historical Museum.

Support comes from Wayne County Foundation.
