Fountain City council’s Oct. 6 meeting was brief, but addressed some important issues. Council member Sue Bromagem presided in President Laurie Hayes’ absence as council adopted the 2027 budget, approved a new blood draw ordinance for the police department and tabled disposal of a used salt box.

In public comments, resident Keith Webster sought clarity on INDOT’s current sidewalk replacement project. He thought INDOT would replace all sidewalks but observed only some being worked on while others were left untouched. Council member Michael Gray stated he would meet with INDOT and Milestone for an update on the project’s status.

Ahead of next year’s Levi Coffin Days, planning committee member Erick Noland asked if street lights could shine brighter as they look to extend festival hours. Tree limb removal and checking the light lenses used could be viable options. Clerk-Treasurer Trina McGuire said she would contact Duke Energy to check on bulb brightness.

In department reports, Gray reported the police department’s training is current and the Explorer needs a new battery. Gray will also get quotes for a full tune-up next month as the vehicle is overdue for service.

Water operator David Allen reported a successful biannual water tower cleaning and sought a lift rental to trim low-hanging tree limbs impacting school bus routes. A quote from Gillman’s for 24-hour use was approved, but may be extended to address Noland’s tree limb request.

Gray will seek quotes for sewer dye testing and inspection from EarthWorks and Champion Drains to pinpoint the cause of recent flooding issues.

After approval of claims, the meeting was adjourned. Next month’s meeting is scheduled for Nov. 3 at 7 p.m., 312 W. Main St., Fountain City. The public may attend.
