The Richmond Board of Public Works and Safety approved contracts worth nearly $725,000 related to the demolition of the Elder-Beerman building and skywalk during its Oct. 10 meeting.

O’Rourke Wrecking Company received a $711,000 contract to demolish the structures. The board had opened bids Aug. 15 and awarded O’Rourke the bid Aug. 22.

In addition, Enviroworx Services Inc. received a $13,395 contract to remove and dispose of asbestos at the Elder-Beerman site, 601 E. Main St., Richmond.

The board also approved a $2,602.44 change order to the Loop Phase 2 contract with Milestone for East Main Street. Three poles with pedestrian crossing buttons were removed and reinstalled at the intersection of Main and Ninth streets because their location conflicted with Indiana American Water infrastructure.

During the Oct. 3 board meeting, police and fire took center stage.
