Wayne County continues preparing for the 2024 renovation of the South G Street bridge in Richmond.

During their Oct. 18 meeting, the three county commissioners unanimously passed a memorandum of understanding with the city of Richmond that allows access through city property for the bridge project. The county will return the property to its existing condition.

The understanding extends for as long as the county maintains the bridge. County government is responsible for bridges within the city.

Timing is important for the bridge project, which is expected to close the bridge during summer 2024. Parts of the project must be completed during March or wait until fall. That’s because nesting bats must not be disturbed.

Commissioners the previous week had approved plans for the bridge work.

Parking lot

Striping of the parking lots around the Wayne County Courthouse and Wayne County Administration Building has been completed.

Commissioners are reviewing employee parking policies to create more available spaces for the public conducting business in either building. Parking was expected to be a discussion topic during the commissioners’ Oct. 25 meeting with department heads and elected officials.
