It previously took place around the time of the Super Bowl, but College Goal Sunday has moved to early October this year. It’s even a month earlier than last year’s event.
Teens and adults considering any vocational and technical schools, colleges or universities can get free help with financial aid forms during the 38th College Goal Sunday.
Financial aid professionals will offer assistance from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, at Ivy Tech Community College, 2357 Chester Blvd., Richmond.
High school seniors and their parents, current college students, and adults considering schooling will receive help completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It’s required by April 15 to qualify for grants, scholarships and loans at most schools. The 2027-28 form is now available at studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa.
Students who qualified for Indiana’s 21st Century Scholars program also need to complete a FAFSA on time to receive their tuition and fees.
Students and parent(s) are encouraged to apply for their U.S. Department of Education FSA IDs at studentaid.gov before attending College Goal Sunday.
Students and parent(s) should each bring 2025 tax returns and W-2 forms or other records of money earned or received, and Social Security and driver’s license numbers. They also should bring information about assets, including bank statements (cash, savings and checking), child support received in the past calendar year, current net worth of any ownership in a business or farm, and current value of nonretirement investments and any real estate (excluding the home they live in).
Students who complete a form at the event can win one of five $1,000 educational prizes.
College Goal Sunday is Indiana’s largest FAFSA filing event, with 35 locations available statewide. Indiana State Financial Association and Indiana Commission for Higher Education offer the event with funding from Lilly Endowment Inc. Prospective volunteers can register online for several tasks.
