Clay Township is looking for a new township trustee.

Rebecca Cool, a Republican, has submitted her resignation from the post, effective Oct. 1. She is moving out of the township, where she has served as trustee since 1999. Clay Township is the area around Greens Fork in west central Wayne County.

The Wayne County Republican Party is working with the township advisory board to find her replacement, according to Republican Party county chair Gary Saunders. They have had no luck finding an interested candidate so far.

The township trustee is responsible for distributing township assistance to needy residents, maintaining abandoned cemeteries and providing funds for fire protection. They must provide accounting for all money received and spent for township purposes.

Clay Township residents interested in the job may contact Saunders, 765-886-5611. He will check to confirm they have voted Republican in primary elections and meet legal qualifications before confirming the appointment.
