Centerville-Abington Community Schools now can provide meals weekly for its students while schools are closed, starting today (March 25).
The school district previously could not plan to distribute food because its percentage of students who qualified for free/reduced lunch was lower than 50 percent, but the state has relaxed its earlier requirements.
Meals will be distributed in a drive-through fashion from 4-6 p.m. Wednesdays at Centerville Christian Church Family Center, 106 E. Main St., Centerville.
Any student age 18 or younger will receive five breakfasts and five lunch heat-and-eat meals to go. No ID is required, but students must be present to receive meals.
The meals are being prepared by Centerville-Abington Schools kitchen staff and then transported to the church.
If transportation is unavailable, families are asked to contact their school’s Communities in Schools representatives. Rose Hamilton’s coordinator is Sarah Rice (srice@centerville.k12.in.us), Centerville-Abington Elementary’s coordinator is Misty Whittaker (mwhittaker@centerville.k12.in.us), and Centerville Jr./Sr. High coordinator is Taylor Babcock (tbabcock@centerville.k12.in.us).
Until further notice, the Bulldogs Helping Bulldogs group will consolidate its food distributions to coincide with meals now being distributed through Centerville Schools’ cafeteria.
