WWN was unable to send a reporter to the Nov. 12 meeting of the Centerville-Abington Schools board. This meeting summary is based on provided meeting minutes.
The board approved 5-0 a 2% pay increase for noncertified staff to take effect with the first paychecks of Jan. 2025. The change will lower the cash balance in the operations budget by 1%. The board is also offering a $500 stipend to administrators along with a teacher appreciation grant, which was $698 last year. The raises match what was agreed upon for certified teachers in the latest contract.
The board celebrated the girls cross country all-conference team members, Anna Nevels, Paige Dixon and Lily Black. The team also advanced to regionals.
The board also recognized the boys tennis and cross country teams, introducing tennis player Noah Wandersee from the conference and sectional championship winning teams.
In other business, the board:
- Accepted a $1,500 grant from the Stamm Koechlein Foundation for the high school drama club, which will help produce three shows
- Approved a delay in when school board meetings will begin being streamed live on the school corporation’s website along with copies of agendas, minutes and related documents being retained for 90 days. The original plan was to begin this Jan. 1, 2025 but state law allows waiting until July 1, 2025.
- Reviewed the letter jacket policy and considered options for offering ways for students to own varsity jackets while preserving their value.
- Approved the 2025 board meeting schedule.
- Thanked Perseponko Painting for donating their time to paint the football field goal posts.
