Wayne County schools are well represented in the Indiana State Fair Band Day evening competition.
Centerville, Hagerstown, Northeastern and Richmond advanced to Friday night’s Sweet 16 and will repeat their shows.
Tonight, Hagerstown will marching first at 8 p.m., immediately followed by Richmond. Centerville competes 11th and Northeastern, is scheduled 13th.
Other bands in Friday night performance order are: West Lafayette, third; Alexandria, fourth; Mooresville, fifth; Montgomery County, sixth; Monroe Central, seventh; Decatur County, eighth; Winchester, ninth; Anderson, 10th; Jay County, 12th; Lebanon, 14th; Kokomo, 15th; and Muncie Central, 16th.
Daytime results
Three local schools earned awards for their performances in the daytime competition.
Centerville won Class AA overall. Hagerstown was second and Mooresville was third.
Centerville won caption awards for music, visual, general effect and percussion. Mooresville won color guard.
Northeastern won an award in Class AAA.
Overall results in that category were: Anderson, 1; Kokomo, 2; Jay Co., 3.
Anderson won caption awards for music and general effect. Kokomo won visual, Northeastern won color guard, and Jay Co. won percussion. All are in Sweet 16.
Lincoln finished 35th. Director Ryan Schunk told students, who developed the show in just 4 weeks, “Words cannot explain how proud I am.”
Two other nearby schools were among the winners in Class A. Monroe Central was first overall, followed by Blue River Valley and Elwood.
Overall, Monroe Central made the Sweet 16. BRV was 17th and Elwood, 21st.
Monroe Central won caption awards for music, visual, general effect and percussion. Frankton won Class A color guard.
