Main Street Centerville is one step closer to its first public art installation, and the talents of a Centerville Senior High School graduate will be featured.
Vice President Beth Treaster said Main Street received four proposals (three local and one from the Indianapolis area) for a town art installation up to $10,000.
Main Street chose the proposal of Ethan Talbot, who now works as an architect after earning two degrees at Ball State University. The work is to be completed this fall.
Talbot has eight years of construction experience and helped design and fabricate a large-scale concrete 3D printed structure showcased at an exhibit in Columbus, Indiana.
He told council during its July 12 meeting that his proposal was inspired by the town’s arches, and the grid of stacked lumber will form an implied arch. Talbot intends for the art to offer a unique space for gathering.
Talbot plans to use treated wood that’s then covered with oil and a sealant for longevity.
Treaster said she’s hopeful that Main Street can seek grant money for future art installations.
