Centerville school board members received updates about potential changes to teacher pay through recent negotiations.
No one spoke during a public hearing on the tentative 2025-2026 teacher contract at the board’s Oct. 8 meeting.
Superintendent Mike McCoy said the contract has some positives, but it remains relatively the same as last year.
Teachers would receive increases ranging from $1,033 to $1,222. Those who are at the top of the scale and use the school’s insurance will receive a $500 stipend to help offset some of the insurance increase.
However, because of the district’s decreased number of students, teachers’ minimum salary ($48,000) and maximum ($80,431) remain the same.
CACS also added $200 to the salary table for teachers obtaining their literacy endorsement per new state requirements.
Retiring teachers would see new benefits. CACS will pay a one-time amount, up to $10,000, to qualifying teachers (age plus job years equaling 85) who retire in good standing with 15 years of service to CACS.
It’s equal to $150 per year of service and $50 per day for sick and personal days up to 96 days. It will be deposited into the teacher’s VEBA account in June following the teacher retirement year.
TEC
About 10 days after learning they’d receive invitations to join the new Eastern Crossroads Conference for athletics and academics, Centerville and Northeastern representatives are to attend a meeting for their current conference.
McCoy told the school board that Tri-Eastern Conference leaders were to meet Monday, Oct. 13. CACS board members will receive updates after TEC’s meeting.
Neither Wayne County school has announced plans to stay in TEC or join ECC.
