Centerville soon will have a new council member.

Wayne County Republican Party Chairman Gary Saunders has scheduled a caucus to take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1 at Fire Station #1, 414 S. Morton Ave.

At that gathering, Centerville’s four GOP precinct committee members will select the new councilor from among the eligible applicants who apply. It is open to the public.

To be considered, candidates must live in Ward 1 and be a Republican voter. In addition, they must complete two required state forms and submit them at least 72 hours before the caucus.

The paperwork is available from Wayne County’s voter registration office inside the courthouse, 301 E. Main St., Richmond, or online at https://www.in.gov/sos/elections/election-administrators-portal/election-forms/.

Candidates must complete CEB-5: Declaration of Candidacy for a Vacant Office to be filled by a Precinct Committeeman Caucus and CAN-12: Statement of Economic Interest for Local and School Board Offices.

Forms must be submitted to the voter registration office or directly to Saunders by the deadline.

As of Friday, election officials said that one candidate, Dave Cates, has filed so far to fill the vacancy.

The new councilor will replace James Bullen, who submitted a written resignation to town officials on Jan. 8.

All five Centerville council seats will be up for election this fall.

Those with questions may contact Saunders at (765) 886-5611 or (765) 238-0724.
