Two people have been confirmed dead after an early Sunday evening fire in Wayne County.

Wayne County Coroner Kevin Fouche said Monday that four people were inside the home in the 7400 block of Carlos Road in Greens Fork when the fire was reported, but only two escaped.

Those who died were a man and woman, both in their early 60s, Fouche said. Identifications have been made, but their names were not being released while family members were still being notified.

Fouche said the two victims had been transported to Dayton, Ohio, for autopsies.

Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office is in charge of the investigation. A spokesperson said Monday afternoon that the origin and cause are still under investigation, and that no foul play is suspected at this time.

Several area fire departments assisted at the scene. Williamsburg Volunteer Fire Department has the lead local role in the response.
