Two Western Wayne men, Eddie Breeden and John Harrod, are being honored this year for 50 continuous years of membership in Cambridge City’s American Legion post.

Eric Triplitt, commander of Lawrence H. Bertsch American Legion Post 169, presented both with certificates and hat pins to mark the milestone.

Through the years, members of the post at 25 W. Church St. have helped connect veterans to resources and donated to various programs helping first responders and local youth, among others.

Harrod is shown outside No. 9 Grill with the Hometown Hero banner picturing him as a 19-year-old soldier in the U.S. Army. Harrod served during the Vietnam War and rose to the rank of sergeant.

Cambridge City Chamber of Commerce collaborated with Legion and town leaders to create a veteran recognition banner program in 2023.

Local veterans’ families, individuals, businesses and organizations, including the Legion, have sponsored the banners and required hardware lining U.S. 40. Additional banners were added earlier this year.
